Hey, I'm
TomIsLoading.
I'm a software engineer based in Orlando, Florida. Here's a sentence about a cool thing that I built and the people it helps. This is about the type of person I am and what I like to do in my free time so you know I'm not a robot. Here's one last interesting sentence so that you remember me a bit better.
Work
Full Stack Software Developer
Company Name • Full-Time • Jan 2021 - Now
Orlando, Florida
Here's a paragraph describing what I did at the company from a high level. I should state my role, the team that I was on, and what we built while I was there.
Here's a second paragraph which goes into further detail. It should try to use hard numbers. Some examples would be "improved conversion rate of landing pages by 23%" or "improved API throughput by 3X".
Software Engineer
Another Company • Full-Time • Jan 2020 - Jun 2021
Boston, Massachusetts
Here's a paragraph similar to the previous. It should describe what I did at the company from a high level. I should state my role and the, team that I was on, and what we built while I was there.
You could also list your projects using bullet points like this:
- A suite of tools used by marketing analysts to directly drive efficiency in hundreds of millions of dollars of ad spend (React, Java, Dropwizard, Python, Vertica, Hive, MSSQL, Presto and more)
- "Forge" framework for designing jobs which pipe billions of rows of data daily (Python, Aerospike, Spark, Hive)
- Custom data analytics user interfaces which allow analysts to track performance of ad campaigns over time (React, PrestoDB, Vertica, Java, Dropwizard)
- The "Generic CSV Uploader" API which has cut development time of new CSV upload utilities (we've got many of them) down from a week to day (Java, Dropwizard)
Unrelated experience
Various Companies • Full-Time • Aug 2015 - Nov 2018
Various Locations
If you've got unrelated experience, you can separate them out as you wish. I tend to lump my less relevant experience into one place like this. I worked in construction before I became a developer, so I might say something like "lead teams of welders and fitters to build projects on a tight deadline". You get the idea :)
Projects
First Project
Here I'll describe in a paragraph or so what my project is, what it does, and most importantly WHO IT SERVES! Describe the problem it fixes and for who it fixes it for. If you worked on a team, say which parts that you built. I like to add a video of how it works like the one below so people don't have to sign up if they don't want to.
Second Project
Here I'll describe in a paragraph or so what my project is, what it does, and most importantly WHO IT SERVES! Describe the problem it fixes and for who it fixes it for. If you worked on a team, say which parts that you built. I like to add a video of how it works like the one below so people don't have to sign up if they don't want to.
Third project
Here I'll describe in a paragraph or so what my project is, what it does, and most importantly WHO IT SERVES! Describe the problem it fixes and for who it fixes it for. If you worked on a team, say which parts that you built. I like to add a video of how it works like the one below so people don't have to sign up if they don't want to.
Education
Dope School University
You can keep this relatively short. Talk a bit about your major, when you graduated (or when you WILL graduate), and any accomplishments you made while you were there. Deans list, sports teams, clubs, whatever shows you've put in some effort!
Another School
If you've got more than one education to list, dope! Add it. Don't feel like you have to add your high school if you don't feel it's relevant, but it doesn't hurt if you've got some other cool stuff (captain of a team etc) to show off.

Tech I Love
I normally add a list of the tech that I use to my portfolios. Instead to doing one of those weird graphs where you say you're 73% in JavaScript or whatever, try something like this:
My choice tech stack for personal projects is GENERALLY (but not always):
- • React (Next JS)
- • React Native
- • Typescript
- • Node
- • Express
- • Postgres
- • Redis
- • Firebase (whole suite of tools)
- • Netlify
- • Heroku
Some other tech that I love and/or have built at scale with:
- • Python (Flask, Django, custom frameworks)
- • Java (Dropwizard primarily + a bit of Spring)
- • PHP (custom frameworks)
- • MongoDB
- • MySQL
- • InfluxDB
- • Aerospike
- • Presto
- • HDFS/Hive
- • Vertica
